Our Campaign Story

ends 05 Aug 2023, 11:59 PM

Hi! I'm Maye-E. I've been working in photography for over 20 years, and am currently Senior Editor, Wider Image and Special Projects at Reuters.

Objectifs has been an important part of my journey in photography, and I'm excited to start a fundraising campaign for them as they celebrate their 20th Anniversary this year! For a donation of $300 or more, you will receive a one-on-one, 45min-long portfolio review with me in person or online on Sat 5 Aug. During this session I will offer mentorship and guidance on how to improve your photography practice.

When Objectifs started in 2003, I was a photojournalist with the Associated Press. I was thrilled to find a community where I could have discussions about photography and mentor a new generation of storytellers. In 2016, I presented my first solo exhibition 'North of the DMZ' at Objectifs, which showed photographs I made in North Korea as AP's lead photographer. In 2018, Kristen Gelineau and I exhibited 'All I Have Left Are My Words', as part of Objectifs' Women in Film and Photography, sharing the stories of Rohingyan women living in refugee camps in Bangladesh.

Objectifs has been my visual home where I've met people who inspire me with different ideas and perspectives. 20 years later, as I reflect on my career as a woman, mother and photojournalist, I appreciate how Objectifs provided me a boost... helping me become a better version of myself personally and professionally. I hope that you can join me in supporting them now!

About Campaign

Objectifs celebrates its 20th anniversary with a host of events to mark this landmark year and raise funds for an extension to its current premises at Middle Road.

This opportunity to expand our physical presence will support our efforts to cultivate original voices in visual storytelling, and to inspire and broaden perspectives through the power of images. It represents the next stage in Objectifs' aim to become one of the preeminent independent visual arts centres in the region, and to better serve the arts community and wider public with more robust programmes.

Our plans for expansion include a Youth Lab with visual literacy workshops for children and youths, an accelerator programme for artist and art collectives to encourage financial sustainability and collaborations with other industries, artist residencies, and a darkroom for alternative processes.

These new initiatives reflect our desire to support the growth of the arts eco-system more holistically. To this end, Objectifs aims to raise SGD$600,000.

About The Charity

Established in 2003, Objectifs is a visual arts space in Singapore that is dedicated to film and photography. Our goal is to cultivate original voices in visual storytelling, and to inspire and broaden perspectives through the power of images. We do this by presenting a year round programme of exhibitions, screenings, workshops, talks, mentorships and residencies, aimed at fostering dialogue about visual culture, and advancing the practice and appreciation of photography and film.Objectifs is a non-profit registered charity with Institution of Public Character (IPC) status. As such, your donations will qualify for a 250% tax deduction for the year 2019. Every dollar you give helps us raise an additional dollar through the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth's Cultural Matching Fund, so you can make an even greater impact with your donation!
