"God's heart has a special place for the poor, so much that he himself 'became poor' (2 Cor 8:9) - Pope Francis (Evangelii Gaudium 197)
Each Lent, through Charities Week, Caritas Singapore collects donations to enable our Catholic charities to help the poor and marginalised they care for, giving hope to 50,000 persons who depend on the generosity of others like you.
The practice of almsgiving, together with prayer and penance in Lent goes back to the time of the Early Christian communities. Prayer and fasting draws us closer to God. Almsgiving completes the perfection of love in concrete love of neighbour by providing for the needy. For God wills that we are blessed so that we can bring God's compassion to others in need.
This year, the mission of the Catholic Charities Week Appeal has been expanded to benefit our Catholic charities in areas that include:
Helping the poor and needy.
Nurturing the young.
Enriching family relationships.
Providing for the elderly.
Caring for the marginalised.
Your donation will support the work of the Catholic Charities under Caritas Singapore, including Agape Village - A Caritas Singapore Initiative.
Caritas Singapore is the social mission arm of the Catholic Archdiocese of Singapore. We coordinate and facilitate the Church's social mission, working with 25 Catholic charity and community organisations under our umbrella, whose charitable work cover a broad spectrum of needy in the community, regardless of race, religion or status. This includes the poor, families, youth at risk, children, prisoners, people living with HIV/AIDS, people requiring palliative care, migrant workers, overseas poor, and those who are physically and mentally challenged. Collectively, we serve over 50,000 beneficiaries.
