Our Campaign Storyends 07 Sep 2020, 11:59 PM
Everyone faces their own pains, but we don't have to go through it alone. Suicide is a taboo subject in society that many often refrain from talking about and yet, it is the leading cause of death for those aged 10-29.
The LAST Running Team in Singapore is trying to draw attention to these issues by supporting Samaritans of Singapore (SOS). SOS provides confidential emotional support for those facing a crisis, thinking about or affected by suicide. With this fundraising campaign, we hope to contribute to a better future.
As part of our fundraiser for SOS, we will participate in what is called The SpeedProject (TSP). TSP is a global, decentralized event from The Speed Project. Starting at 7 PM Singapore Time on September 5, 2020. We'll have 31 hours and 15 minutes (the standing TSP record) to run as many kilometers as we can, relay-style.
Participants in this relay run are: Jonathan Chan, Wei Wen Cheah, Joel Seah, Mun Kong Seow, Cory Lehman, and Michael Lints
About The Charity
On average in Singapore, more than 408 lives were lost to suicide annually from 2015 to 2020: that's about 1-2 suicides every day.
According to the WHO, for every suicide death, more than 20 others would have attempted it.
Samaritans of Singapore (SOS) is the only suicide prevention centre in Singapore. We are a secular non-profit organisation which provides 24-hour confidential emotional support to people thinking about suicide, affected by suicide, or who have difficulty coping during a crisis. We take a holistic approach to suicide work with an emphasis on suicide prevention, intervention and postvention.
