I thought long and hard about what I can do to help others. I don't have much to offer other than my time and efforts. I had recently started running this year, and thought it would be meaningful to merge my new found love for running, by raising money and awareness for charities along the way.
Some of you may know that my husband lost his younger sister to leukemia, hence I want to dedicate my first fund raiser run to The Bone Marrow Donor Programme. I have started the ball rolling by donating $100 to my humble aim of raising $1,000 by the end of 2017 to the charity.
Donations start from as little as $10 with a valid debit or credit card, and once registered at the website your donations will be tax deductible.
I plan to continue to raise money for 4 different charities each year for a 3 month period each. Join me on this journey as we work together for a City of Hope.
The Bone Marrow Donor Programme (BMDP) manages Singapore's only register of volunteer bone marrow donors. For the past 20 years, BMDP has been providing that one chance of survival to hundreds of patients suffering from terminal blood-related diseases. When their only chance of survival is to have a bone marrow transplant and they have no matching siblings who can donate healthy blood stem cells, they come to us. With just a one in 20,000 chance of finding a matching donor, BMDP is absolutely committed to building the local donor register into a true national asset able to help all Singaporeans have that second chance; A Donor for every Patient is what we aim for.
