Our Campaign Story
ends 31 Jan 2021, 11:59 PMAs the New Year approaches, Keppel Electric specially invites 96.3 HaoFM listeners to pay attention to the elderly, especially those living alone. The coronavirus epidemic has restricted communication between people, making companionship a precious gift. During this period, the "Friendship Project" of Lions Befrienders aims to take care of the elderly living alone. As they are a high-risk group, they are going out less during this period and need more attention. Hence, we try our best to meet with the them as social contact elevates their sense of loneliness and helplessness.
Founded in 1995, the Lions Befrienders Service Association is committed to extending a hand of friendship and care to the elderly so that they can continue living a rich, exciting and meaningful life in the community. In the past 25 years, Lions Befrienders have helped more than 86,000 elderly people escape from their sense of loneliness and lack of life through various projects.
As a supporter of this heart-warming project, Keppel Electric hopes that more people can come together and provide warmth for the elderly living alone especially with the festive season approaching.
About The Charity
Established in 1995, LB has more than 25 years of experience in befriending and caring for seniors in order for them to age in place in the community. Over the years, LB strives to address the varied needs of more than 86,000 seniors by adopting a senior-centric approach in its eldercare services. Leveraging on the support of some 1,000 regular volunteers, we actively engage more than 6,000 at-risk seniors via a spectrum of integrated eldercare service from preventive to intervention through comprehensive programmes, including social, emotional, mental and physical, to improve their quality of life.
Amid the challenges in the eldercare landscape, LB undertakes constant review and adjustment to its programmes and services. Under our Community Outreach arm, we currently operate 10 Senior Activity Centres, 3 Cluster Support, 2 Senior Group Homes and Home Personal Care services. Our Befriending arm extends island-wide befriending services to socially isolated seniors. For its exemplary disclosure and corporate governance practices, LB was conferred the Charity Transparency Award by the Charity Council in 2016 and 2017.
