Our Campaign Storyends 04 May 2020, 11:59 PM
UPDATE 3 (19/4): Raising goal amount from $3000 to $4000.
UPDATE 2 (18/4): We have surpassed our revised $2000 goal and will be updating the goal amount accordingly. Thank you everyone for your kind contributions.
UPDATE 1 (14/4): Having reached our original goal of $1200 within 2 days, we have decided to extend our goal to $2000. We have also extended the fundraiser till 4th May 2020 (end of circuit breaker duration (for now)), in hopes of raising as much as possible through this period.
With the increased difficulties migrant workers are facing given the current COVID-19 climate in Singapore, we have decided to start a fundraiser for the Migrants We Care (MWC) campaign (organised by Migrant Workers' Assistance Fund (MWAF)) for our birthday this year.
We hope that the funds raised can contribute to alleviating some of their distresses during these trying times.
Thank you for your donation!
Our migrant workers have been affected by COVID-19. In response to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases among the migrant worker community, MWC has started the "Migrants We Care" fundraising campaign for our migrant worker brothers and sisters in Singapore.
During the month-long "circuit breaker" period in Singapore, all workplaces except for those providing essential services and those that are able to operate remotely will be suspended to stem the spread of COVID-19. In the unfortunate event that some migrant workers are displaced, a token amount will be given to these affected workers who are unable to recover their salary.
2) Food and Accommodation
Most airlines have ceased operations due to COVID-19. Migrant workers might have to stay in Singapore for an extended period because of flight cancellations. To help our migrant workers cope in this period of uncertainty, part of this fund will be used to provide affected migrant workers with food and accommodation.
3) Daily Necessities
To provide daily necessities like bathroom essential and items to workers who are required to stay in.
About The Charity
The Migrant Workers' Assistance Fund (MWAF) is the humanitarian charity of the Migrant Workers' Centre (MWC). MWC assists migrant workers redress employment disputes and furthers education and awareness among them of their employment rights. MWC also promotes migrant workers' social integration as well as their harmonious co-existence with Singaporeans at the workplace and beyond. As case assistance for migrant workers is frequently accompanied by follow-on issues with housing, food and other subsistence costs, the MWAF was set up in 2012 (IPC-certified in 2014) to fund all humanitarian and emergency assistance rendered to MWC case clients - if their employers fail to discharge the duty to care for and protect their own workers. The MWAF allows the MWC to cover and protect vulnerable workers up till their outstanding matters are resolved and concluded, and is a key resource for the MWC in providing proper and adequate help to distressed and victimized migrant workers in Singapore.
