I have read books, seen movies and heard about it... but one is still so unprepared to deal with Cancer especially when it affects a near and dear one. The person I know has lung cancer and has just completed his 51st chemotherapy. He is also going to undergo radiotherapy. Such terms fill me with dread day after day but this person is so brave. He is nearly 80 years old but fills me with wonder at the way he is so matter-of-fact about it and is sticking to his daily routine with sheer single-minded focus, refusing to feel beaten and just looks ahead to the next day. That strength in him is a source of inspiration and I would like to help in the fight against cancer in my own small way. Thank you for reading this.
About The Charity
Established in 1964, Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) is a self-funded voluntary welfare organisation which provides patient care services to needy cancer patients through its welfare, hospice home care, cancer treatment subsidy and rehabilitation support programmes. In addition, the Society also provides free cancer screening services and promotes cancer awareness and prevention through its public education and community outreach programmes.
For the past 56 years, SCS has extended support to over a hundred thousand beneficiaries through various services and programmes. The impactful programmes continue to contribute in SCS' four key strategic thrusts:
