Our Campaign Story
ends 30 Jun 2023, 11:59 PMI am Ninn. I love my long hair.
I have had long hair all my life and it represents a large part of my female identity.
Ever since my mum got diagnosed with cancer in the year 2020, the idea of going bald to support cancer awareness took root in my head. For a long time, I've had many second thoughts. Growing up as an avid social media user, being perceived as pretty has always been one of my very top priorities - as with many girls my age.
In light of turning 18, a big milestone, I asked myself; does having long hair truly define me? I wanted to challenge my long-standing top priority and finally took this bold radical step to shave my head for a good cause - cancer.
Although some people give me double takes when they walk past me, I do not regret this decision. This journey has been largely fulfilling and liberating as I get to experience a small part of what a cancer patient may have to go through.
Personally, I've had the luxury of three years to deliberate on this decision. However, for many cancer patients, not only do they have to cope with the challenges of undergoing chemotherapy, but keeping their hair is also not an option for them.
To the youth out there, I encourage you to join me in taking this bold step to shave our heads, donate our hair for wigs and help raise awareness for cancer.
For all of you who are reading my story, do open your hearts and donate to my fundraising campaign for the Children's Cancer Foundation.
Thank you!
