Our Campaign Story

Update: Thanks to everyone's support, we've increased our fundraising goal!

2020 was simultaneously a long and short year. Many things went on in the world but with the global lockdown, we had to be confined to our rooms, homes, and countries. Like many, we struggled initially to get used to the lockdown, to learn to appreciate the luxury of time, spend time with loved ones and slow down to recalibrate our next steps. Lockdown highlights the issue of loneliness and isolation. Even more so, lockdown reveals the importance of social connection and support, which many isolated elderly do not have the luxury of enjoying.

For this year's fundraiser. we want to raise awareness for the Lions Befrienders Service Association. Their team never stopped reaching out to lonely elderly even during Singapore's circuit breaker to provide medical support. Their befriending service reaches out to 5,000 seniors with little or no family support and provides access to social and psycho-emotional support. For many seniors, Lions Befrienders' team were probably the only people they would see and interact with during those months of isolation. With lockdown, it aggravates the social isolation that elderly face.

Because you and I can now empathize with the feelings of loneliness and isolation more deeply than ever. This year, join us in supporting the Lions Befrienders Service Association this festive season.

About The Charity

Established in 1995, LB has more than 25 years of experience in befriending and caring for seniors in order for them to age in place in the community. Over the years, LB strives to address the varied needs of more than 86,000 seniors by adopting a senior-centric approach in its eldercare services. Leveraging on the support of some 1,000 regular volunteers, we actively engage more than 6,000 at-risk seniors via a spectrum of integrated eldercare service from preventive to intervention through comprehensive programmes, including social, emotional, mental and physical, to improve their quality of life.

Amid the challenges in the eldercare landscape, LB undertakes constant review and adjustment to its programmes and services. Under our Community Outreach arm, we currently operate 10 Senior Activity Centres, 3 Cluster Support, 2 Senior Group Homes and Home Personal Care services. Our Befriending arm extends island-wide befriending services to socially isolated seniors. For its exemplary disclosure and corporate governance practices, LB was conferred the Charity Transparency Award by the Charity Council in 2016 and 2017.

Fundraising can help to raise more and change more lives.
