Our Campaign Storyends 31 Dec 2021, 11:59 PM
We are a group of Year 3 students from Edgefield Secondary School. As part of our Values-in-Action (VIA) project, we have partnered with Beyond Social Services to raise awareness and funds for food insecurity in Singapore.
Beyond Social Services aims to help children, youths, and their families from less privileged backgrounds to break away from their poverty cycle. Among other things, Beyond is also very actively involved in food insecurity through its Jiak Bak Buey (have you eaten?) campaign as well as research papers in this area.
A 2017 US study showed that children who have experienced food insecurity in their first 5 years of life were more likely to be lagging behind in social, emotional, and cognitive skills when they begin kindergarten. This may cause the child to continue lagging behind other students even as they grow older. We believe that every child and youth should be able to focus on the glory of their youthful days without having to be food-insecure. Eating 3 meals a day is crucial for their health, focus, and basic life skills. Regardless of our family background, we believe that every being deserves a chance to experience their childhood or teenage years to the fullest before entering the workforce.
Hence, we have decided to raise funds for the disadvantaged. We hope to receive your utmost support for this initiative to raise awareness and funds for food insecurity in Singapore!
About The Charity
Beyond serves disadvantaged young people and their families to move them beyond their problems. We want to develop young people who respect the law, value education and seek to become responsible persons.
Keeping young lives on track is about building a community where they can grow, contribute and believe that they are a part of. Beyond works to build inclusive communities where young people, local neighbourhoods, and wider society, can come together to share their gifts and cooperate on resolving their issues.
We value inter-organisational collaboration & will steadily expand by building networks of individuals and organisations that contribute towards our vision. We believe that our target group always benefits when more members of the community take an active interest in their well-being.
