Our Campaign Story
ends 15 Aug 2022, 11:59 PMThroughout June and July, NUS students plan and organise engagements with charity programmes under various Social Service Agencies (SSAs). They then participate in Flag Day, where students travel all over Singapore on 2 separate days to flag for donations from the public. The proceeds are disbursed by Community Chest to the SSAs whom our students engaged with over the summer.
This year, Dentistry Flag's partner SSA is Pathlight School. Pathlight School is the first autism-focused school in Singapore that offers Singapore's national curriculum together with life readiness skills. It caters to students on the autism spectrum with related conditions, aged 7 to 18 years, who are cognitively able to access mainstream academic curriculum but require additional support such as smaller class sizes, special accommodations and teaching staff trained in autism.
On top of flagging and organising a fundraiser selling Dentistry themed merchandise designed by our incoming Year 2 undergraduates, Dentistry Flag along with Year 1 and Year 2 undergraduate volunteers will be carrying out a workshop for Pathlight Students in end June to increase awareness on the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene and to equip them with the relevant skills needed to practise good oral hygiene.
About The Charity
Community Chest is the philanthropy and engagement arm of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS), which is the national co-ordinating body for social service agencies in Singapore.
As the hallmark of care and share, Community Chest aims to raise funds and engage the community so that social service agencies can focus on developing and delivering quality solutions and empowering the lives of those in need. Since 1983, Community Chest has been serving and in partnership with the people, public and private sectors to create a collaborative and impactful social service ecosystem for 39 years.
100% of your donations go towards helping the disadvantaged, as our fundraising and operating costs are covered mainly by Tote Board. Community Chest supports more than 100 social service agencies and over 200 critical programmes empowering the lives of those in need, including children with special needs and youth-at-risk, adults with disabilities, persons with mental health conditions, and seniors and families in need of support.
