Our Campaign Story
ends 30 Jun 2023, 11:59 PMIan (not his real name) is a Primary 6 student enrolled in Canossaville Student Care (CSC). He was born with profound hearing loss in both ears and received cochlear implants before his first birthday.
Despite having the implants from a young age, Ian struggled greatly in communicating with others. He did not have any speech ability at seven years old, and resorted to drawing in an attempt to communicate with his mother.
In Canossaville, Ian receives speech therapy from the Canossian Child Development Unit. Our speech therapist recommended him to use an Augmented and Alternative Communication (AAC) device in the form of an iPad and Proloquo2Go, a communication app. The AAC enables Ian to communicate with others by selecting and typing out words and phrases on the device.
Ian has made much progress in the past year. Through speech therapy sessions, he has become proficient in the use of the AAC and is now learning to speak and communicate.

About Campaign
Canossaville Student Care (CSC) provides after-school care for primary school aged children. Priority is given to those from vulnerable and challenging family backgrounds.
CSC is a working proof of inclusion in action where children with hearing loss, learn and play alongside their typically developing peers in a supervised environment. Children are provided academic support and homework supervision to ensure that students stay on track to meet their learning goals.
