The isolation and detachment from social activities can be overwhelming for children and their families. And with the fast changing environment that they are now growing up in, I think it is important to care for children's mental well being, giving them an outlet to express their emotions and confusions and encouraging them to do so.
And so, for the month of October, my birthday month, I would like to take this opportunity to raise funds for children to have more access to art therapy as a way for them to cope mentally and emotionally during this turbulent time.
The Red Pencil (Singapore) is consciously aware that COVID19 has brought unquantifiable changes and isolation challenges to people's lives, and that times of uncertainty requires as much stability as possible.
Concerns for our most vulnerable groups that we serve (children, women and families) are heightened in the midst of this unfolding crisis, and our ongoing work in creative arts therapy is essential more than ever.
Mental health is the biggest thief of human potential and this current unprecedented time is having a profound and pervasive impact on mental health issues on people of all backgrounds and walks of life, with symptoms of increased anxiety, stress, depression, isolation challenges, and the fear of becoming mentally unwell likely to continue well beyond the current pandemic is over.
In response to COVID19, The Red Pencil (Singapore) is committed to meeting these challenges in supporting our affected groups and community more than ever.
We are working on expanding our existing face-to-face art therapy activities by introducing a number of online creative arts therapy programmes as a viable pathway for participating in meaningful, creative psychotherapy which will be especially beneficial in addressing many of these worrying mental health symptoms.
To do this we are appealing for your generous support, no amount is too little. Your funding gift will contribute immeasurably and be a springboard to provide means for creative therapy in a truly impactful way.
About The Charity
The Red Pencil (Singapore) is an Institution of Public Character and a registered charity founded in Singapore with a mission to bring the benefits of arts therapy (drawing, music, movement and dance) to children, adults and less privileged families who have been through overwhelming and traumatic life circumstances such life-threatening illness, violence and abuse, for which they may have no words.
We partner with hospitals, family centres, foster and elderly homes and shelters, schools and prisons, and all health-related institutions to help them incorporate arts therapy as part of their existing psycho-social programmes.
The creative process of arts therapy allows our service users to express the unspeakable, to experience release and relief, to find new resources, gain self-confidence and feel empowered to move on towards a more hopeful and happier life. At The Red Pencil (Singapore), we are dedicated to the resilience and long-term recovery of the most vulnerable from all walks of life, to allow them to grow and become healthy and happy human beings for the world of tomorrow.
Through arts therapy, The Red Pencil (Singapore) helps break the vicious cycles of helplessness and violence, reduces stress and trauma and offers a way of expression towards balance, self-empowerment and resilience. Anyone, anywhere, at any stage in their life, can benefit from arts therapy.
