Our Campaign Story

ends 19 Oct 2018, 11:59 PM

We are a group of 8 friends climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in August 2018. We would like to use the opportunity to raise awareness about the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) as well as funds for the NCC Research Fund.

The NCCS sees 150,000 patient visits a year, treating almost 70% of cancer patients in the public sector. But did you also know that the NCCS runs almost 200 clinical trials in a year?

**********

My father was a patient of the NCCS for almost a decade after being diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. He underwent 2 clinical trials.

At the time of his diagnosis, we were prepared for a remaining life expectancy of 2-3 years. It is remarkable he had so many more years than that. But beyond that, we are immensely grateful for the quality of life he enjoyed. These 9 years of quality life are without a doubt attributable to the holistic care of the multidisciplinary team at the NCCS and the new medicines made available through the trials run by the NCCS.

In a country which sees almost 35 people diagnosed with cancer every day, we would like to show some support for the NCCS Research Fund and provide hope to Singaporeans living with cancer.

About The Charity

Established in 2005, the NCC Research Fund supports innovative research to find the breakthroughs that will change how we understand, diagnose, treat and ultimately cure cancer.

With cancer research and care under one roof at the National Cancer Centre Singapore, the knowledge gained from patient-centric research fuels advancement in clinical care, which in turn provides knowledge that drives research. We firmly believe that today's research will pave the way for tomorrow's cure for cancer.

Please note that in the event that the donations made for a specific purpose/project:
(i) Are less than the minimum $10,000 to support an existing project OR
(ii) Has no new applicable project after a 2-year waiting period, the NCC Research Fund Board of Trustees reserves the right to channel these donations to the Fund's general pool in support of other worthy research projects.
