Our Campaign Story

"I don't have family. My parents and siblings are no longer around. I am alone."

"It has been months already. No phone calls, nothing."

"When I ring up my children, we do not talk much."

These are the words of the 88 year old, Mdm Kamsiah, a senior in Singapore.

During this COVID-19 situation, many people have been isolated and have lost their sense of community due to social distancing and other restrictions.

Mdm Kamsiah is one of these people. But her situation is much more unfortunate than the vast majority of us, who are already used to the COVID-19 norm. Today, she is struggling alone in a rented flat, troubled by loneliness as a widow. Her children don't call her; her parents and siblings are no longer around; she has no family.

As coronavirus is still rampaging around the world, a couple of friends decided to create Team Famigos, your 'family' and 'amigos'. Our goal is to raise funds, with the Lions Befrienders Service Association, for the lonely elderly who are struggling amid the COVID-19 situation, like Mdm Kamsiah. We also organise initiatives such as a Virtual Show with the theme of 'throwback' and 'nostalgia', to engage the elderly.

Please let them know that they still have a family, who are willing to support them.

Do follows us on our socials to keep up-to-date with our initiatives :)

About The Charity

Established in 1995, LB has more than 25 years of experience in befriending and caring for seniors in order for them to age in place in the community. Over the years, LB strives to address the varied needs of more than 86,000 seniors by adopting a senior-centric approach in its eldercare services. Leveraging on the support of some 1,000 regular volunteers, we actively engage more than 6,000 at-risk seniors via a spectrum of integrated eldercare service from preventive to intervention through comprehensive programmes, including social, emotional, mental and physical, to improve their quality of life.

Amid the challenges in the eldercare landscape, LB undertakes constant review and adjustment to its programmes and services. Under our Community Outreach arm, we currently operate 10 Senior Activity Centres, 3 Cluster Support, 2 Senior Group Homes and Home Personal Care services. Our Befriending arm extends island-wide befriending services to socially isolated seniors. For its exemplary disclosure and corporate governance practices, LB was conferred the Charity Transparency Award by the Charity Council in 2016 and 2017.

Fundraising can help to raise more and change more lives.
