Our Campaign Story

ends 01 Dec 2018, 11:59 PM

As some of you already know, Francis and I will be running the Siem Reap half marathon on the 1st Decemeber 2018.

This is a huge challenge for me, with the longest distance I've ever run is 10km.
I am a mixture of nervous, excited and ready for the challenge!

I would like to raise money for the Samaritans of Singapore as they provide an invaluable service for people affected by suicide every day.

They man a 24hr hotline for callers, 365 days a year as well as email services, crisis support, specialist counselling and outreach to suicide survivors.

The Situation in Singapore

- Suicide is the leading cause of death for those aged 10-29

- There are 2.4 times more deaths from suicide than transport accidents

- 429 lives were lost to suicide in 2016

- For every suicide, at least 6 suicide survivors are left behind.

Your contribution will help with the training they provide health staff and schools, local outreach to survivors of suicide, relocation to a bigger and better site and much more.

If you've read this far then you're awesome!!
Thank you for your support and I'll see you at the finish line : )

About The Charity

On average in Singapore, 407 lives were lost to suicide annually from 2013 to 2017: that's about 1-2 suicides every day.

For every suicide death, 10-15 others would have attempted it.

Samaritans of Singapore (SOS) is the only suicide prevention centre in Singapore. We are a secular non-profit organisation which provides 24-hour confidential emotional support to people thinking about suicide, affected by suicide, or who have difficulty coping during a crisis. We take a holistic approach to suicide work with an emphasis on suicide prevention, intervention and postvention.

We set out to be an Available Lifeline to Anyone in Crisis as we aim to be the Premiere Organisation in Suicide Prevention in Singapore.
