A nagging infirmity? A bucket list item? Searching for enlightenment? Call it what you will, but we are finally going to do it! We are going to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, which rises approximately 5,900 meters (19,330 ft) above sea level.
Setting off on 8 July, we will spend 8 days trekking 46 miles across Mt. Kilimanjaro (via the Lemosho route) through rainforest, moorlands, alpine desert, and summit climate zones, with the goal of hitting Uhuru peak on the seventh day in time for a spectacular sunrise.
While this is a personal challenge (and dream) for us both, we also want to use this climb to do good by raising funds for a worthy cause. As adults, we count ourselves lucky by getting the opportunities to pursue our individual dreams, but unfortunately for too many kids in the world, this just isn't so for them.
Make-A-Wish Foundation is a charity that focuses on using your donations to grant wishes, big and small, to less fortunate children with life-threatening medical conditions. The proceeds raised from this charity climb will go towards enriching their lives that little bit more. Their wishes could be as simple as wanting to bake a cake, or more ambitious pursuits, such as participating in the Special Olympics. Whatever amount we raise will help make a huge difference to the lives of these kids.
Please wish us luck on this adventure and support us in raising funds for Make-A-Wish Foundation.
