About Campaign

ends 28 Feb 2018, 11:59 PM
Through this campaign, we aim to raise $50,000 to serve over 700 Calvary Community Care beneficiaries while raising awareness of the importance of reading aloud to a child.

Start by reading to a child or give to our cause today.

Post a short video of yourself doing so and hashtag #readwithmeliteracy to raise awareness of reading stories aloud to children today! You can tag a friend to encourage them to do the same. The top most interesting & creative videos stand a chance to win a story collection kit!

As part of our campaign, we will also be giving out Story Reading Kits to our lower-income beneficiaries this holiday season.

The Singapore government is well aware that the key to education lies in proficient English literacy; "being able to read well in English... has the most impact on the performance of children... (in) the formal school system" (Ms Grace Fu, The Straits Times Tuesday, Nov 12, 2013)

One of our programmes; Story L.A.B., is dedicated to bring children the experience of "bedtime stories", where stories are read aloud to children. We believe that by instilling in them a love for reading, it will boost the confidence of these children, especially those from lower-income/non-English speaking homes, and provide them with a stronger foundation to meet the literacy demands of formal education.
