4 July marks Youth Day as celebrated in Singapore, in dedication to the young people in our community! There are some of these youths who may not have had an easy time growing up amidst these challenges.

15-year-old Clare* is often expected of her parents to take care of her younger siblings and help with managing the household chores. The constant pressures to meet her family's needs consumed her at times and this resulted in tense disagreements with her father. She also faced other stressful situations in school as well as friends whom she struggled to draw boundaries with.

Today, Clare is actively involved in YouthReach (YR), our youth outreach service, where one of our youth workers is in touch with her regularly. When she was first introduced to us in 2019, Claire was hesitant and was not very receptive towards the outreach of our youth workers.

Over the years of rapport and trust developed, Clare felt more at ease to open up and share more about her personal life and challenges with our youth workers and began to seek their guidance. Since then, she has participated in many YR's programmes and workshops and has also introduced her friends to us.

With a bright and bubbly personality, Clare began to enjoy interacting with people. She is today, eager to work at YR to give back to the community, lending a listening ear and shoulder of support to other youths, just like how she has benefited from the support of the youth workers!

About the Charity

Boys' Town is a charity founded by the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel in 1948. We first began as a residential care for war-torn orphans, imparting education and life skills to them. Over the years, we have expanded to provide a continuum of services serving children and youth in-need. Boys' Town's services now include residential care, fostering, youth outreach, adventure therapy and clinical intervention.

Boys' Town serves both boys and girls, from infants to young adults. We help children and youth who come from disadvantaged and disengaged families who may have faced hardship resulting from difficult home situations, financial struggles, abandonment, and abuse. Each year, Boys' Town works with over 1,000 children and youths.

With 73 years dedicated to the social mission, Boys' Town equips the children and youths in need with the skills they need to become socially integrated, responsible and contributing members of society.

All qualifying donations are eligible for 250% tax deduction (if applicable).
