About Campaign

ends 31 Mar 2016, 12 AM

Due to the lack of cooking facilities and time, a foreign migrant worker typically pays $130/month for 3 meals/day for catered meals. Caterers provide meals that consist primarily of rice to cut cost. As a result, the nutritional intake of these workers is low, leading more than 325,000 workers to suffer from micro-nutrient deficiency aka "hidden hunger":

“We feel very weak at our workplaces; no energy due to food we eat. But no choice.” - Lolon
“I took food from caterers for 3 years. The main problem I found is gastric attack.” –Saibal
Also, each has to pay middlemen who handle orders and payments of food. Yet, the catered food are not delivered on time which results in food becomes stale by the time of consumption.

BoP HUB aims to combat hidden hunger and ensure an efficient value chain so that migrant workers can enjoy healthier lives. It intends to provide fortified rice as a nutritious alternative to regular rice and acts as the middlemen to ensure on-time delivery of food.

About NPO

BoP HUB serves as a gateway between businesses and BoP* markets. We work together with technologists, manufacturers and other non-profit organisations to design products integrated with distribution, logistics, public policy, and technological considerations, in order to optimise the supply chain, achieve scale economies and deliver much needed goods and services to consumers at the bottom of the pyramid. Our mission is to catalyse and strengthen cross-sector collaboration and participation in social entrepreneurship targeting the bottom of the pyramid markets. Our vision is to design business to end poverty. *BoP stands for Base of the Pyramid, which refers to the largest and also the poorest population worldwide—over 4 billion people living on roughly $10 a day or less. In addition, they carry the burden of a “poverty penalty” and are often forced to pay more for lower quality basic goods and services due to market inefficiencies in production and distribution.
