Our Support Services provide information and support for women who are in distress or at a time of uncertainty in their lives.

Our Services comprise the following:

Crisis Helpline - The AWARE Helpline provides empathy, support, information and encouragement to women in need of assistance. Our Helpline volunteers have been professionally trained and are able to help callers with a variety of concerns.

Counselling - Our counsellors provide counselling for individuals, couples, and families. They also run self-development workshops and facilitate group therapy when needed, such as in cases of marital and family discord and domestic violence.

Legal Clinic - Experienced lawyers are available at our Legal Clinic which provides women with free legal information and advice.

Befrienders - Women who are going through a difficult time may not be able to get adequate support from family and friends. They may be too embarrassed, confused or scared to go to the police or other official centers or may be simply overwhelmed by the court or police process. AWARE's Befrienders scheme is designed to help such women. A Befriender will accompany women who need to go to the police, the hospitals or the courts.

About the Charity

The Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE) is Singapore's leading gender equality advocacy organization. AWARE supports and empowers women on an individual basis and seeks to remove all gender-based barriers that prevent individuals in Singapore from developing their potential to the fullest and realizing their personal visions and hopes. It does this in three ways, namely, research and advocacy, education, and providing social services. In 2016, AWARE won the Charity Governance Award 2016 for the Medium Charities/IPCs category. The Charity Governance Awards, (CGA), organised by the Charity Council, aim to promote good governance in the charity sector by acknowledging the excelling work of charities, while inspiring others to emulate their best practices. AWARE qualified as a candidate for the CGA by becoming a winner of the Charity Transparency Awards (CTA). The CTA recognises charities with good disclosure practices.
