About Campaign

The S.H.E. Project is a research-based service that provides stable and decent housing and transformational support programme for low-income families headed by single mothers. Prior to moving into S.H.E., these families were enduring untenable living conditions, such as situations of family violence or abuse.

AWARE's 2016 study "Single Parents' Access to Public Housing" found that low-income, single-mother families who sought HDB sale and rental flats faced a range of problems: unrealistic income ceilings, long debarment periods and lack of transparency and clarity in policies.

With S.H.E., we hope to reduce housing insecurity and stress, give residents a chance to stabilise their lives and develop their capacity to transition out of poverty.

S.H.E. provides housing for up to two years, to afford the families longer-term stability. Each apartment accommodates up to three families, depending on size, with each family being allocated one private room each and only need to pay a very low monthly rental fee.

We need your help to ensure that we can continue to provide them with stable and decent housing and advocate for fairer access to housing.

About the Charity

The Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE) is Singapore's leading gender equality advocacy organization. AWARE supports and empowers women on an individual basis and seeks to remove all gender-based barriers that prevent individuals in Singapore from developing their potential to the fullest and realizing their personal visions and hopes. It does this in three ways, namely, research and advocacy, education, and providing social services.

In 2016, AWARE won the Charity Governance Award 2016 for the Medium Charities/IPCs category.

The Charity Governance Awards, (CGA), organised by the Charity Council, aim to promote good governance in the charity sector by acknowledging the excelling work of charities, while inspiring others to emulate their best practices.

AWARE qualified as a candidate for the CGA by becoming a winner of the Charity Transparency Awards (CTA). The CTA recognises charities with good disclosure practices.
