CAS Annual Vaccination Drive 2021
by Causes For Animals (Singapore) Limited
HELP 1000 SINGAPORE'S STRAY AND SHELTER ANIMALS RECEIVE A VACCINATION THIS YEAR Vaccination is a $18-a-pop solution that keeps each vaccinated animal healthy for the next 365 days. During that time, they are kept immunized against infectious, deadly diseases like distemper and parvovirus. The $18 cost also includes dewormer for each individual animal, ensuring none dies eaten out from the inside by hookworms. Vaccinating every dog, cat & rabbit is a logistical nightmare and a time-consuming process for just one organization alone. That's why this year, Causes for Animals (Singapore) is banding together with other shelters for the Singapore AWG Annual Vaccination Drive 2021. Together with various vets, CAS will be providing vaccinations to 1000 animals from 16 animal welfare groups. THE MORE VACCINES WE ARE ABLE TO PURCHASE, THE MORE VACCINES WE CAN GIVE. THE MORE LIVES WE CAN SAVE.
(Private Campaign) Great Eastern - Growing Stronger ToGEther
by Garden City Fund
Great Eastern and Great Eastern Financial Advisers will be celebrating their 113th anniversary and 10th anniversary this year! To commemorate this milestone and as part of their sustainability journey, Great Eastern is participating in NPark's OneMillionTrees Movement to plant 1,130 trees to contribute to efforts in reducing carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions. Tree planting impacts our environment directly as trees provide oxygen, store carbon, stabilise soil and provide habitats for native wildlife. All employees and financial representatives are invited to contribute to this greening journey through the Plant-A-Tree Programme. Every $300 would enable the planting of one tree. Once planted, trees will be geo-tagged and all donors can visit TreeSG (https://www.nparks.gov.sg/treessg) to see their geo-tagged tree. Provisions have also been made for donors to pool their contributions together with others, regardless of the amount donated. Let's all do our part and make the world a more sustainable place to live in! All donations with a valid NRIC/FIN number are 2.5 times tax-deductible. Your donation details will be provided to IRAS and included in your next tax assessment automatically. Upon donating to this campaign, you are consenting to allow GCF to share your donation details with Great Eastern upon request. If you prefer to donate anonymously, please email GCF at [email protected] with your donation details. (Photos were taken in 2017.)
In memory of Felix Bell: A Programme for Children in Critical Care
by KKH Health Fund
Our son, Felix Bell, passed away in June from an unrecognised heart condition. He left this earth way too soon, he was an amazing son, brother and friend to all. Felix was full of life, befitting the meaning of his name "Happy-Go Lucky". He was born in Singapore 14 years ago, with a dual nationality of Dutch and Australian, a Singapore PR and a love for all three countries. He loved his sport and was very active in encouraging us as a family and his friends to join in. Felix believed no one should be left behind and was keen to ensure that those around him were ok, whether his family, friends, classmates or teammates on the field, whoever you were, if he could help, he would! To that end we wanted to establish a programme that would ensure Felix's spirit would live on and that he would be remembered through his desire to help others. Paediatric care seemed like a great way to represent the caring and helpful aspect of Felix and rehabilitation for children through exercise represents his love for being active and ensuring others can live as full a life as possible. Our vision is to establish a paediatric critical care research and education programme under the SingHealth Duke-NUS Paediatrics Academic Clinical Programme which will enable us to improve paediatric survivors overall health outcomes for life. We hope that you can help us realise this outcome through this programme and join us in remembering Felix for who he aspired to be and encouraged others to follow.
SMOO CHALLENGE 2021 - Saw Cheng Lim running to make a difference
by Singapore Management University
Shortly after joining SMU as a junior faculty member in April 2000, I composed a “school song” named Those First Steps to mark the occasion. The piece was later transcribed for the SMU symphonic band and performed at the flag-raising ceremony for our “new” Bras Basah home in 2005. Then, to mark the completion of my first decade at SMU, I gathered a bunch of like-minded colleagues and students to stage the inaugural 24-hour charity swim in 2010 to raise funds for needy undergraduates. It was, of course, my desire to commemorate the completion of my second decade at SMU with yet another meaningful undertaking. But alas, Covid-19 descended upon us in early 2020. Therefore, when I was asked to be a SMOO Ambassador to fundraise, it was very hard for me to say “no”. The world in which we live today is markedly different from the one we knew when I took my “first steps” in academia more than two decades ago. Despite these difficult times, I believe that we can all still make a contribution, however modest and in whatever form, to help the less privileged amongst us. And the reason for advocating this collaborative spirit is because - “Together, Each (of us) Achieves More”! This, to me, is what being part of TEAM SMU is really all about. As Ralph Waldo Emerson reminds us, “to know even one life has breathed easier because we have lived”, “this is to have succeeded”. I hope you will support SMOO Challenge 2021 and join me in this worthwhile endeavour. Thank you very much!

GIFT children with cancer HOPE & STRENGTH to live their very best, one day at a time
by JL KAH for LOVE, NILS LTD.
A cancer diagnosis is shocking, often paralyzing, and more so traumatic for the child & the whole family. Suddenly, their world seems upside down. Lots of 'why' running through the head, lots of challenges waiting ahead. LOVE, NILS provides emotional, social & community support to children with cancer & caregivers. Their primary effort is providing care coordinators to guide patients & caregivers through the healthcare system. They also provide support through integrative therapies, home and school visits, educational talks, identifying financial resources, facilitating communication with healthcare providers, and more. They help patients understand their diagnosis & any other concerns that may arise. LOVE NILS also provides programmes and initiatives via Education Support (one-to-one weekly tutoring sessions), Open Art Support (weekly sessions at NUH & KKH to help children and their family express emotions which might not be easy for them to verbalise), Xploro Health (health information platform that uses augmented reality, gameplay and artificial intelligence to deliver health information to young patients), T-Shirt Masterpiece Program (patients create their masterpiece, which is then printed onto t-shirts for the children to keep) and more. Your generous support can ensure that LOVE, NILS continues this life-changing work. Thank you very much for gifting children with cancer HOPE & STRENGTH to live their very best, one day at a time.
SMOO CHALLENGE 2021 - Dr Maliki Osman & Family running to make a difference
by Singapore Management University
Our family will be challenging ourselves to running a combined distance of 10km every day, for 21 days as part of the SMOO Challenge. Opportunities in education can be life-changing, and they are crucial for all of us to pursue our aspirations and improve our lives and the lives of those around us. This was the case for my wife and I. Despite our humble beginnings, we worked hard to build the life we have today, only possible because we had the education opportunities then. Our daughter, Lidia, being an SMU School of Law alumna, has benefited from the opportunities that have come with learning at and graduating from SMU. We hope that many others with big dreams and ambitions can have these same opportunities, no matter their family circumstances. That is why we have chosen to embark on the SMOO Challenge, to allow us to spend time together as a family, challenging ourselves with an active task that requires positivity and commitment, towards a common goal of hopefully helping to improve opportunities in education for others, especially those who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. We hope to raise $1000 a day for the 21 days that we will running as part of the challenge. We hope our effort will go some way in supporting these students in SMU! We hope you can support us to make this happen! #SMOOChallenge21
Save-a-Dog Medical Fundraiser
by Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter Ltd
* Dollar-for-Dollar Matching Grant * Help us raise much-needed medical funds for the neglected and forgotten street dogs of Singapore. According to estimates, there are 6,000 stray dogs currently wandering the streets and jungles of Singapore today. We started in 2006 when our co-founders trapped more than a hundred of stray dogs to save them from being caught and culled by the authorities who wanted to reclaim the land they were living on. Now, 15 years later, we continue to give a voice to the voiceless. We house up to a hundred dogs at our shelter at any given time. Many of these dogs are difficult to rehome, for a variety of reasons. Some are still undergo training, others are terrified. Some are too old, others have medical issues that prevent adopters from taking them home. So, OSCAS has become a sanctuary for them. A safe space where they can be loved and cared for, and, hopefully, rehabilitated. But all of this comes at a great financial cost. As our dogs age and we continue to rescue abandoned and abused dogs, we have seen a sharp increase in our medical bills. In 2019, our total medical costs were almost $80,000. In 2020, they were $125,000. So far this year, we have spent more than $117,000 on veterinary care - and we expect that this figure will rise to more than $210,000 by the end of 2021. Every amount we raise for our medical bills will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Tote Board and the Government under the Enhanced Fund-Raising Programme.
